About McEntyre’s Bakery

McEntyre’s Bakery is a Fourth Generation Family Business. Howard McEntyre Sr. founded McEntyre’s Bakery in 1947 along with his son, Howard Jr. upon his return from service in the US Marine Corp in World War II. The bakery quickly became a favorite spot for freshly baked cakes, pies, and breads for those living in the Smyrna and Marietta communities. The father and son’s first location opened as “Smyrna Bakery” on Atlanta Road in downtown Smyrna. The name was changed to “McEntyre’s Bakery” after a brief move to a location just north of the Windy Hill intersection on Atlanta Road, and then moved to yet another location on Atlanta Road, the Jonquil Plaza shopping center in 1961. McEntyre’s Bakery called Jonquil Plaza home for 46 years until the center was demolished in 2007 to make way for the City of Smyrna’s revitalization plan. In April 2007, McEntyre’s Bakery moved to its current location on Concord Road in Smyrna, at which time an increase in space allowed for the addition of seating and a full line of deli products.

In 1988 McEntyre’s Bakery shifted into its Third Generation of ownership as Howard Jr’s son, Steve McEntyre took the reins of the business along with business partner and long time employee Charles Barnett. Upon Mr. Barnett’s retirement in 2001, Steve’s Son, Ryan entered as McEntyre’s Bakery went into its Fourth Generation of family operation. Steve’s other son, Brandon also served as co owner for several years before joining the largest bakery distributor in the United States. Today McEntyre’s Bakery is owned and operated daily by Steve and Ryan McEntyre along with with Steve’s Wife (Ryan’s Mother), Diana, Ryan’s Wife, Joy, and their children, the Fifth Generation – Madalyn, Mason, Hudson, and Maggie.

The McEntyre family gives credit to God for continually sustaining their business for over 70 years. Through forced moves, recessions, fluctuating material costs, and an ever growing availability of baked products in super markets and web based stores, He has allowed McEntyre’s Bakery to grow and thrive. Much of McEntyre’s Bakery’s success is often attributed to the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” philosophy of the McEntyre family. Many of the original mixing machines, cake pans, and other equipment bought by Howard McEntyre Jr. in the late 1950’s are still in use today. The key to making a great cake or a perfect pie is not found in fancy, technologically advanced equipment, but is achieved by using the highest quality ingredients available and by putting the care into making a product as if it were for your own family. Our customers are our family, they have been faithful to McEntyre’s Bakery for decades and they deserve the very best we can offer them.
